Sonics Play Host to Minicamp
Seattle native and University of Washington product Will Conroy describes it as slipping through the back door.
For 19 NBA hopefuls, the Seattle SuperSonics hosted a minicamp on Thursday and Friday to get a glimpse of several, talented minor league players who could find their way on to an NBA roster come fall.
“When you’re not called on draft day it’s tough going through that back door,” said Conroy, 25, whose name was not called in the 2005 NBA draft. “It’s about perseverance.” Read more
1 commentSeattle Barons, I mean Supersonics?
“I don’t know what it is,” said Kasey Moody, a 23-year-old Duncan resident. “It just looks good.”
It is the color scheme that’s gaining steam for the uniforms of Oklahoma City’s prospective NBA franchise — black and gold.
With The Oklahoman’s NBA Team Name Contest now whittled down to the Final Four nicknames — Thunderbirds, Barons, Outlaws and Thunder — opinions still vary on what the team should be called. But some, like Moody, are among a growing segment who thinks black and gold could work as the team colors no matter the nickname or mascot.
“It’s just different,” said Moody, who designed the black and gold “Oklahoma City Barons” jerseys that appeared on the cover of The Oklahoman’s sports section on April 14 as one of hundreds of reader-designed jersey submissions.

Durant and Green Headlines All-Rookie Team
Sonics guard Kevin Durant and forward Jeff Green were selected to the NBA all-rookie team announced Tuesday by the league. Other first-team choices were Atlanta forward Al Horford, Houston forward Luis Scola and Los Angeles Clippers forward Al Thornton.
In a bit of a surprise, Durant, the overwhelming rookie-of-the-year winner, finished second to Horford in the voting process.
Horford was the only player unanimously chosen to the first team while Durant received 28 first-team votes and one second-team vote.
The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches. Two points are given for first-team votes and one point for second-team picks. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players. Read more

Seattle SuperSonics general manager Sam Presti didn’t take long to replace departed assistant general manager Scott Perry.
Presti announced Thursday that former Utah Jazz player personnel director Troy Weaver is joining the Sonics as the assistant general manager.
Weaver replaces Perry, who spent one season with Seattle before returning to the Detroit Pistons as their vice president of basketball operations.
Weaver has certain strengths that Presti wants in the job, with a background both as a talent evaluator and a coach.
Weaver played a pivotal role in Utah drafting guards Deron Williams, C.J. Miles and Ronnie Brewer, and forward Paul Millsap. Read more

Here are some quotes from different articles and interviews of my main man, Kevin Durant.
“It’s good to shine some light on our team, You know, a lot of people aren’t real fond of our team right now.”
“I didn’t think I would get it because those other rookies helped their teams get into the playoffs.”
“We just couldn’t hit anything tonight. We had good looks, they just didn’t fall.” Read more

This video has nothing to do with Kevin Durant, but it is hilarious. I watched this on TNT the other day and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Sonics learn order of picks
The NBA recently broke ties amongst several teams going into the 2008 NBA Draft, and the results helped determine where the Sonics will select on June 26.
The Phoenix Suns won a coin flip with Houston, meaning the Suns pick in the first round, which the Sonics acquired in the Kurt Thomas trade last summer, will be No. 24 overall.
In addition to No. 24 and their own pick, still to be determined in the May 20 Draft Lottery, the Sonics will hold four second-round picks: Read more
1 commentSonics GM says Carlesimo will return as coach
BELLEVUE, Wash. — P.J. Carlesimo will return to coach the SuperSonics next season, the team’s general manager said Thursday, ending speculation he might be fired after the worst season in Seattle history.
At an event introducing Kevin Durant as the NBA Rookie of the Year, GM Sam Presti declared what Carlesimo, who was standing about 15 feet away, did not yet know.
“Will he come back?” the youngest GM in the league was asked.
“Absolutely,” the 31-year-old Presti said. Read more
1 commentKevin Durant honored as rookie of the year
BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP)—Kevin Durant was so excited to learn he had just won the NBA Rookie of the Year award, he went back to sleep.
That’s what seven months and 82 games—more than double the amount the lanky 19-year-old had played in any previous season—can do to a teenager.
Fatigue that wasn’t apparent while Durant soared in Seattle this season finally caught up to the SuperSonics’ star this week. Then his mother, Wanda Pratt, woke him up with the news that he had just joined mentor LeBron James plus Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Oscar Robertson and Wilt Chamberlain in a legendary legacy of rookie award winners. 2 commentsKevin Durant Fan is still under construction
Kevin Durant Fan v.2 officially launched yesterday, May 1st, but it still needs a lot of work. I launched it prematurely just so I can have something up for the many visitors that are visiting the site, especially since Kevin Durant just won the Rookie of the Year award.
While most of the site is still under construction, the biography of Kevin Durant and the wallpapers section is already active. By the way, don’t forget to visit the site once in a while, as we will be releasing new wallpapers for you to download.
Also, the free iPhone banner that you see on the sidebar is real. I already got myself an iPhone. Just fill out the form and follow the steps and you are on your way to a free iPhone.
